In 2025, important changes await the Madrid Metro. There will be new stations and interchanges, it will be easier to get to the airport, some important lines will be renewed and, possibly, plastic passes will disappear. But first things first.
The Community of Madrid will invest €180.9 million in the works to extend Metro Line 5, which will link Alameda de Osuna with Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport. Today, the Governing Council approved the award of the contract for the works, which will begin in spring and will last for 30 months.
Already since last October, Madrid metro passengers can have a 10-ride pass and public transport tickets in their smartphone. It is expected that in the first half of 2025, monthly passes can also be used in phones and possibly do away with plastic cards altogether. A public transportation scheduler is also expected to be launched during 2025.
Today at the press conference following the last Governing Council of the year, the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, announced that work on the new Conde de Casal interchange and the extension of Metro Line 5 will begin in the first quarter of 2025.
